This unique wooden dripper was designed under the concept of "Making a dripper that can brew delicious coffee by using traditional Japanese technique".
The dripper is handcrafted by Yamanaka-shikki, Yamanaka is name of the place and shikki means lacquerware. The craftsmen there started to make lacquerware from 17th century and the techniques are inherited by generations until nowadays. One of the secrets of the technique is "tategidori", a special way to trim the wood. The common practice is to cut the wood vertically to maximize the usage of a piece of wood, but in this way the wood will deform quickly since it is cutting along with the direction that the tree grow. Tategidori is cutting the wood horizontally so it won't have the same problem. Also, Yamanaka-shikki use the wood that have been dried for few months, so the wood that used on this dripper is durable and can last for a very long time.
The ribs of this dripper is horizontal ring-liked, they act like speedbumps and help to reduce the flow rate. If you like slow brew and mellow flavours, this dripper will be a nice choice for you.
Fits with 01 size cone-shaped filter. Some people use Kalita Wave Filter 155.
